Having a nice car is well, nice. Yet it doesn’t look so sleek when caked in dirt and grime. A beautiful automobile deserves to be cared for. Plus, once it’s squeaky clean, you’ll love driving it around.
With the right care, a car — even a secondhand one — can look as good as the day it rolled off the showroom floor. All you have to do is put in a little elbow grease.
Keep it Clean
Don’t drive to the automatic car wash — it’s not good for your paint. However, neither is leaving grime in place. Instead, schedule time for a hand wash. Using a quality soap designed for automotive use, not household dish soap. Read the back label of any product to ensure it won’t ruin your clear coat.
Once you hose ‘er down, dry the car properly to avoid water spots. Apply a high-quality wax a few times a year. Use a clay bar prior to waxing to remove irregularities and small imperfections in the paint.
Don’t forget about your vehicle’s glass, chrome and wheels. Use an ammonia-free cleaner and a microfiber cloth to clean your glass regularly — both the inside and out.
For wheels, use a fine-compound polish. Consider investing in a drill-mounted buffer to make the job quick and easy. Top everything off with some tire black to make those wheels look better-than-new.
